What characteristics and behaviors will make teachers stand out as an ethical teacher?

Whether you're teaching kids or adults, if you're a training professional, you want to be the best teacher you can be. The quality of the teacher is the most important factor in the quality of education and includes qualities such as kindness, compassion, commitment, enthusiasm, respect, and knowledge. Here are five simple things you can do now to prove that you have these features.
Learn the names of all your students. Remember them on the first day of school or before and then address each student during the course with his name. This shows that you take care of your students. If you know them all by name and name them by name, they will know and feel that they care enough to make that effort. It also shows respect. You can remember the names as an exercise to break the ice or a game on the first day, or better still, if you can get a list of students and their photos, you can attend first grade by bringing all the students with you Know names. How do you think this will make the students feel? The teachers I most remembered called me by name, although the class was in a large university auditorium. This memorizing exercise requires a bit of effort, but it's well worth it.
Post a daily agenda. Use it as a springboard to set clear expectations and directions for every aspect of the class. Be obsessively organized and clear. Repeat yourself twice as much as you feel is necessary. Demonstrate the work precisely the way you want your students to do it. My best grad school professor was meticulous this way. He worked example problems in minute detail and clearly demonstrated the required format for our work. We knew what we were supposed to do and how we were supposed to do it every day. That allowed us to focus on the concepts rather than worrying about packaging. Students who know what you expect and where they stand will work harder for you and learn more.
Grade and return submitted work immediately. Aim for always returning it the next day. Every student has had the experience of having a teacher who does not return any graded work until near the end of the term. Do not be that teacher. Be the opposite. Feedback is worthless if it is not given quickly. You will be amazed at how positively students respond when they receive feedback quickly enough so that they can learn from it and act on it. Returning graded work right away demonstrates respect for the students, and it makes your teaching more effective.
Call every student (or parent) at least once during the term. This is simple but not easy because it takes some time and effort, but it pays huge dividends. It shows the parent that you care about their child as an individual. Parent involvement in education is critical to student success, and parents become more involved when they hear from the teacher about their student. Call with something positive to report. This often has amazing and long-lasting benefits. Just make a quick call to let the parent know that their child gave a great response to a question or wrote an excellent paragraph, or improved in some small way. If you teach adults, the same principle applies. Call the student directly. Compliment their work and ask them for feedback as well. You will stand out as an exceptional teacher and likely end up as that student’s favorite.
Participate after hours. There are several options for this. It can be as simple as arriving a little early and staying a little late each day so your students know they can get a bit of extra help just before or after school or class. It does not have to be more than half an hour in most cases. Just don’t be so anxious to leave that student since you don’t want to be there for them. If you teach at a school with sports, music, drama, dance or other activities, attend some of their performances. If there is one activity that you are good at or enjoy, become a coach or adviser. My coaches and extracurricular advisers are at the top of the list of teachers that influenced me throughout my life. If you show an interest in the outside activities, you demonstrate that you care about your students as people and not just as work. You will also be able to draw upon those experiences which will allow you to relate and communicate better with your students.
Those are five simple actions you can take that will make you stand out as a teacher. You will stand out because so few teachers do all of these things. There are many other simple steps that you can take that will have a great impact, such as smiling and saying hello, laughing once in a while when appropriate, and listening to students while making eye contact and paying full attention. Each of these simple acts demonstrates some of the most important characteristics of outstanding teachers. Why not do all of them?
